Dearest Gus Gus,

Your physical exit from my life has brought a sadness I have never known, but your spirit moving onto your next journey whole and without pain bolsters my heart and soothes my ache for you. I swear I can still smell your sweet soft fur and hear your motor buzzing purr, till I realize it's in my ear that they still thrive. I will never forget your scrawny little kitten self, then the majestic Lion you grew to be with the full throttle energy you lived and shared with me. We had silent agreement to nap together at least once a day, as well as your unspoken vow that you would never abandoned me when I was heartbroken and lost as I so often was in my younger days.

As I was navigating my first apartment alone, a new career and what I thought at the time was true love (yes Gussy, you were right... he was a jerk) you were there with your constant support and loudly spoken approval or disapproval of my choices. When my Daddy passed, you were so strong to let me burry my tears in your little furry body literally holding me up at those times I could not even raise my head. My sorrow over missing your fuzzy face and big green eyes is the same as then, except you're not here to catch those tears or tame my fear of how I can possibly go on without you. The lessons you taught me for these 16 years I will always remember, the jewels you gave me and the wisdom you lent by your example will forever remain in my heart and memories.

You were always so sure of yourself and never questioned your worth, you gave your love without a price and I am better for having loved and cared for you. My life story will be greater for the years we wrote it together. Just as I whispered to you as you passed, you were a success in all that you did. You made even "cat haters", Gussy Fans as I constantly caught the "haters" sneaking in a tummy rub. You did your job by leaving smiles in your wake, you were a great mouser (even minus your front claws, I'm so sorry about that), you were a great big brother to the girls, smacking their too aggressive sniffs appropriately on the nose (Diamond and Violet miss you too), you kept my Mother company when she was missing my Dad the most, you were a wonderful friend and teacher and I'm so grateful you picked me. I'm glad you lived to see me in a happy place with a good man and strong foundation, I wanted you to meet the baby but I know you had another job to do and I know without a doubt you will do it like the little king you are.

Love, Ashley
