Zuko

Zuko, you were the bestest boy. When Animal Control found you, you were in rough shape, but they could tell how sweet you were. So Dr. Sue's technicians named you after Danny Zuko, from the movie Grease – like him, you were rough on the outside, but sweet on the inside.

If I had to describe you in one word, it would indeed be Sweet. We liked to refer to you as a Puppy-Cat. You seemed to sense when there might be a lap available, and you would make a beeline for it. Whenever I sat down in my reading chair, you would track me down – even if you were already snuggled happily under the bedcovers. You exuded that happy, open attitude to strangers, too – I laugh when I remember how the vets couldn't hear your heart because you always purred so loudly, and how you loved to head-butt new people. Even when we had to give you medications, you were such a little love-bug; you often settled down and purred as you were getting your sub-Q fluids, and you lay quietly on your back between my knees when we had to give you nosedrops.

Throughout your all-too-short life, you amused us with your antics, and you amazed us with your intelligence. We laughed ourselves silly watching you chase your tail (after all, we thought only dogs did that...). Sometimes you would even glance stealthily over your shoulder, as if you thought you could sneak up on your tail, before pouncing on it. You drove us insane when you discovered how to pull on a spring-loaded doorstop so that it made a twang that reverberated throughout the house. And we loved how you would watch us until you knew one of us was looking your way, then you would flop on your back to get a tummy-rub. You knew every sunny spot in the house, and sometimes I would find you sitting at one of your spots, waiting patiently for the sunlight to migrate down the wall to where you were positioned.

I could write so much more, but space is limited. Suffice to say that you have left gaping holes in our hearts, but we get some solace from knowing that you are at peace, and that you are romping around in Heaven with a healthy new body and lots of new friends – and I'll bet you now nap in the laps of angels! We look forward to seeing you again, Little Fuzz-Butt!
